4 Tips on Selling Fabric on Feel Good Fibers, Fabric Marketplace
Making money by destashing and offloading fabrics you don’t intend on ever using on Feel Good Fibers (a marketplace for fabrics) is easier than you think. Before you get going with listing your first item, here are four tips you should read:
1. Take awesome photos - In an Instagram-era, we digest photos faster than ever. It’s important to have photos that are thumb stopping and stand out from the crowd.
Here are some pointers on how get that money shot:
- Use your own photos, not stock photos - people want to see what they’re actually purchasing.
-
Make it presentable. It’s very likely that you’ll be listing something from the bottom of your stash. Take the time to press and remove any loose threads, dust or pet hair.
-
Keep clutter in the background to the minimum. Hold item up against a plain wall or place item on a plain piece of cardboard or surface - preferably white background - and shoot.
- The best lighting is natural lighting. It shows the colours of the item in its truest form. Don’t have sufficient lighting in your home? Snap your photos outside.
-
List at least 2 photos. Show the item from various angles (and / or scale) - next to a ruler, up close, from a far and multiple angles.
- If any, share photos of any imperfections.
2. Honesty is the best policy - Share information about the current condition of your item, for example defects, stains, odors. It may mean it will take a little longer to sell your item, but your honesty will help build trust with potential buyers.
3. Be detailed, clear and concise - In addition to photos, be clear and provide as much detail as possible in the description. Tell the buyer the brand, yardage, colour, theme, shipping, exchange and refund policy, etc. Think about what your buyer is going to want to know, and type in the search bar when they’re shopping. In other words, keywords are the key.
Here are a few examples to get you thinking about what to include:
4. Be reasonable - Don’t alienate people with an outrageous price, but at the same time, try to get the most for what you’re selling. Do your homework and browse around to see how much other sellers are charging for a similar item. Or go beyond the Feel Good Fibers platform and see how much your fabric is listed at other retailers, such as Etsy.
