Garden Tile Quilt Block 16 Different Ways
Since getting my hands on my curated fat quarter bundle for Art Gallery Fabrics, Summer Streets (learn more about the bundle here), I’ve been looking for the perfect project showcase all the prints. Of course, there’s the Mercer Street quilt pattern specifically designed to go with the bundle and is a FREE download from my website! But I wanted something more.
Thankfully, I didn’t have to look too far and it was sitting in my back pocket all along...
It’s my Garden Tile quilt block pattern. The Garden Tile quilt block is derived from the traditional spool quilt block, and is arranged to form a star in a cross design. Collectively, the blocks are inspired by repeating painted garden tiles.
The following blog post explores 16 different fabric combinations using the Summer Streets fat quarter bundle with my Garden Tile quilt block.
With all the 16 blocks made up, you can transform it into a baby size quilt top that measures 48" x 48" (finished size) by sewing together 4 rows of 4 blocks. Alternatively, add cornerstones and sashing to help frame and unify the set of blocks, and turn it into a lap size quilt or a large baby size quilt that measures 54" x 54" (finished size). You can find the tutorial with the fabric requirements and cutting directions for the cornerstones and sashing for baby, throw, twin, queen and king size quilts here.
In no particular order, here are the blocks and the corresponding fabrics used. Fabric requirements and cutting directions are provided in the
Garden Tile quilt block. Please note that you may need to supplement some of the fat quarter prints from the bundle to make all is what outlined below. I used fabric scraps from my
Mercer Street quilt projects to do that:
